Reasons Your Hair Won't Grow

I’m sure I’m not the only one who dreamed of thriving, gorgeous curls that would stop people in their tracks. I wanted hair so big, people wouldn’t be able to see behind me! Unfortunately, that’s not a reality some of us will have. Our hair refuses to grow, at least to the extent we want so we overwhelm ourselves with expectations that can be hard to live up to. There are many myths about black hair such as our hair lacking the inability to grow naturally. This is of course false, but it’s important to remember health is more important than length! Your hair will grow, but it may lack the thickness and or length you’re desiring. Don’t worry! We’ve come up with some ways to ensure your hair is growing in its healthiest form!

1) Be careful with oily products!

Using too many oiled products can block and clog your pores! This will lead to the disgusting effects of build-up such as dandruff, and excessive oil. Build-up is caused by the lack of moisture that’s unable to penetrate the scalp, thus the scalp can’t continue healthy growth! Too much oil will strip your hair of its hydration so it’s best to avoid excessive use! If your hair is dry, oils will not help anything! Oils seal in hydration, but it can’t do that if there’s no hydration in the first place!

2) Improper cleaning

I can’t stress how important proper cleansing is to promote hair growth. If your scalp isn’t clean, your hair follicles can’t grow to their greatest extent. To make sure you’re cleaning efficiently research shampoo products to make sure they’re beneficial for your hair needs. For example, the Soultanicals Sprout Rice Vitamin Butta Shampoo is a great option to promote hair growth and hydration because it nourishes and improves hair elasticity. The Moisture Love Gentle Embrace Hydration Shampoo is also great because it’s gentle and sulfate-free so the hair isn’t stripped of its nourishment!

3) Vitamin deficiency!

If your body’s not absorbing the proper number of balanced vitamins, your scalp will suffer. All hair grows from the scalp, so the scalp is most important to ensure your hair is stronger and healthy. Foods that are high in zinc, iron, protein, Vitamin A, and more will promote stronger and longer hair! If your foods are deficient in vitamins, it’s important to take daily vitamins that are also edible. The Tailored Beauty Hair Vitamins and The Mane Choice Manetabolism Plus Vitamins provide essential antioxidants that will make a huge difference with consistent use!

Be mindful that the healthiest hair starts from the scalp since it’s the newest! When you’re using hair vitamins it won’t magically transform the hair that’s already grown from the follicle. They will ensure hair that’s coming to the surface will be stronger and healthier!

4)Too much manipulation

Too much manipulation will lead to breaking. If you’re trying to have longer hair, doing too much will make it difficult to do so! Excessive styling, elastic rubber bands, and heat exposure will lead to breakage and dryness! As stated, before if there’s a lack of hydration the scalp and hair strand can’t thrive in an environment that’s unhealthy.

Protective styles are great to give your hair a break! Whether you decide to use extensions or not, your hair deserves a break from it all. Check out the article 5 Protective Styles That Are Great for Any Occasion if you’re in need of inspiration!

5) Genetics will have an effect!

Genetics can and will have an influence on how long your hair grows. It doesn’t completely dictate the length, but it will have some sway on how much your hair will grow! Health is more important than length so once again I stress the importance of health>length.

The vitamins you’re digesting can also have an effect, so you must be cautious of the nutrients and medications you may be taking! Take note and be mindful of the effects of such!

Hair growth is largely dependent upon scalp health. It’s important to be patient and mindful that hair growth is inevitable although it may be slower than anticipated! Be gentle and know there are ways to increase your hair’s growth and health.  Your hair is beautiful no matter what, so embrace your coils as they are!
